The Price of Happiness / by Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra

We all want to be happy. But how far will we go to secure happiness? What cost are we prepared to pay to have all of our dreams fulfilled? This is an age-old question!

In our upcoming HICO performance, our two “Josephs” – one, a 20th Century soldier and and the other, a 21st Century entertainer – are separated by both, time and space. But also, their creators view the conflict from different vantages.

Igor Stravinsky treats the Faustian plot from the view of Joseph,  the soldier. Whereas James Stephenson portrays the “diabolical position of Sam. When pairing the two works, the audience truly travels “to hell and back!”
